What is a Quality Assurance Specialist?
The Quality Assurance Specialist’s role is to develop and establish quality assurance standards and measures for information technology services within the organization. This individual will also gather and analyze data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements. This includes writing test plans and scripts for tracking defects and fixes in product development, software application development, information systems, and operations systems. The QA Specialist will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate IT processes through careful testing in order to maximize the benefit of business investments in IT initiatives.

Job Summary:

  • Employs Software testing techniques to ensure software functionality
  • Develops test cases and testing plans for software systems
  • Creates documentation of software testing plans and results
  • Analyzes results of tests and recommends corrective actions
  • Documents and tracks bugs, issues, defects, and enhancements to software
  • Assists in QA testing of applications under purchase consideration
  • Maintains and evolves testing methodology
  • Communicates with Stakeholders and Dept managers on Progress and results
  • Develops and establishes quality assurance measures and testing standards for new applications, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout their development/product lifecycles
  • Collaborates with software/systems personnel in application testing, such as system, unit, regression, load, and acceptance testing methods
  • Makes recommendations for improvement of applications to programmers and software developers or engineers.
  • Analyzes documentation and technical specifications of any new application under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality
  • Cultivates and disseminates knowledge of quality assurance best practices


Our Ideal Candidate:

  • College diploma or university degree in software engineering, computer science, or business administration and/or 3 years equivalent work experience
  • 2 years of experience in Computer Software Testing
  • 2 years direct experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of quality assurance standards for software testing
  • Experience with Quality Assurance and software testing applications
  • Direct hands-on experience with ad hoc query programs, automated testing tools, and reporting software
  • Experience with statistical reporting and analysis
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Certifications in Software Application Testing and/or Quality Assurance Programs and techniques
  • Strong knowledge of system testing best practices and methodologies
  • Extensive practical knowledge in importing data for use in report software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flow charts
  • Proven data analysis, data verification, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent PC skills
  • Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent listening, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
